In November 2003, the 114 year-old Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry merged with the Johannesburg branch of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry to become NafcocJCCI, the first regional organization to unite black and white business interests.

NafcocJCCI shares in the heritage of the world's oldest and best known business brand - the Chamber of Commerce movement - the world's largest business organisation under a single name. Throughout the world, Chambers of Commerce are regarded as the most trusted third party in developing trade links.

The Chamber is a voluntary, non-profit association of business, autonomous and politically independent.

Over the course of time, the Chamber has signed co-operation agreements with 50 sister organistions in 35 countries. It uses these world-wide links to facilitate business between its members and incoming traders.
